Wayne M. Reisetter graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in 1976 with an B.S. degree in Law Enforcement.  He served as a police officer for the Kirksville, Missouri Police Department, and the Urbandale, Iowa Police Department.

In 1989 he graduated from Drake University Law School with honors and was admitted to the Iowa Bar in January 1990. He commenced private practice, subsequently serving as an assistant Dallas County attorney until December 1998.

Wayne was elected to office and assumed the responsibilities of County Attorney in January 1999 and was re-elected in  2002, 2006,  2010 and 2014. He was President of the Iowa County Attorneys Association in 2008, and is currently a member of the Board of the Iowa County Attorneys Association.

Wayne served as a reserve military officer in the Iowa National Guard and US Army Reserve, retiring from that post in 2013.

The Duties of the Dallas County Attorney:

  1. The County Attorney, governed by Chapter 331 of the Iowa Code, ensures that the laws of the State are enforced within Dallas County, prosecutes violators of the law and acts as legal counsel to the Board of Supervisors.
  2. Defends the County in all actions brought against it.
  3. Legal advisor and draws indictment for Grand Jury.
  4. Collects money owed to the State and County.
  5. Prosecutes violations of the Dallas County Code of Ordinance.

The Dallas County Attorney does not:

  1. Represent individuals or private groups in lawsuits.
  2. Provide legal advice for individuals or private groups on any issue.
  3. Prepare wills, deeds, trusts, or any other legal documents for individuals or private groups.
