Dallas County Central Maintenance Facility ground

The Road Department is in charge of construction and maintenance for all of the county roads and bridges. This includes 200 miles of paved and 700 miles of granular surfaced roadways. Excluded from the county system are roads that are located within the corporate limits of any town as well as highways on the State system (i.e. U.S. I-80, 6 and 169 or Iowa 44 and 141). There are 106 county bridges, many of which are longer structures in order to traverse branches of the Raccoon River watershed.

The Department has 45 employees with 36 assigned to the Maintenance division and 9 to the Construction division. The foremen, mechanics and truck operators are based at the Central Maintenance Facility that is located three miles north of Adel on the east side of Highway 169. Ten motor grader operators are located in satellite shops at Adel, Granger, Perry and Redfield. The engineer, assistant engineer and technical and administrative staff are located in Adel.
