Chapter 47 of the Dallas County Code of Ordinances deals directly with Building Codes for Dallas County’s Unincorporated Areas. The Chapter states that “No building or structure shall be used, erected, constructed, repaired, altered, moved or demolished unless it fully complies with the standards of this ordinance”. The purpose of Chapter 47 is to establish construction and safety minimums that benefit the general public and preserve the health, safety, and general welfare of Dallas County’s residents.
Chapter 47 contains sections addressing compliance with the 2006 International Fire Code, 2006 International Building Code, 2008 National Electrical Code, 2006 International Mechanical Code, 2006 International Plumbing Code, 2006 International Fuel Gas Code, 2006 International Residential Code and 2006 International Existing Building Code. Inspection of development for compliance with Construction Codes/Ordinances is the responsibility of the Department of Planning and Development’s Code Enforcement Officer.
