Food Preservation 101

A fun overview for adults and older school-age children on the old-time (and still practical!) arts of drying, freezing, pickling, hot-water bath canning, and pressure canning fruits and vegetables. Find out about the equipment, time and money each method requires. Learn how to avoid common food preservation mistakes. No food preparation or actual food preservation will be done in class. The purpose of the calls, taught by Iowa State University Extension Nutrition and Health program specialist Mary Krisco, MS, RD, is to help beginners decide which type of food preservation would be practical for them and to remind experienced canners of new food safety procedures. Spaces are limited. $3 per person. Pre-registration is required for this program. Register by calling 515.465-3577 or sending an email to conservation@co.dallas.ia.us
